Spring Activities

Spring is one of the greatest times to visit Deep Creek Lake. During this time of the year, the lake is quiet and peaceful. As the days begin to grow longer the weather starts to warm, the lake begins to snap out of it's winter chill. In the early spring, you'll be glad to know that Memory Cove has two fireplaces to keep you and your guests warm and comfortable.

Hiking, Biking and Picnicking
If hiking and picnicking are your choice, you can choose from five state parks including Swallow Falls State Park with its natural trails and Muddy Creek Falls which is Maryland's largest waterfall.

Celebrate the Making of Maple Syrup
Early spring is also the time for sugaring or the making of maple syrup. Many groves of maple trees can still be found in Garrett County including Brenneman's Grove which is located just outside of Bitinger. Today, this grove is one of the most beautiful. Want to sample a taste of this bounty? You can find local maple syrup products are available in many of the regional stores.

Spring Festivals and More
April and May celebrates the area's spring awakening by hosting Easter Egg Hunts and wild flower/bird walks at several state parks.

In mid May you'll want to travel to Grantsville for the National Pike Festival which includes music, a wagon train, story telling, demonstrations and displays of the wares of local artisans and craftsmen.

Be sure to catch the Annual McHenry Highland Festival which features Traditional Scottish dancers and bagpipe bands. Scottish food and shops as well a sheepdog demonstrations and bagpipe contests will delight you and your guests. The Festival is held in early June at the McHenry Fairgrounds.
